Multiple fêtes for many solitudes
La Saint-Jean Baptiste
La fête du St-Jean is a scaled-down affair under the Quebec Liberal government, further de-emphasizing the nationalist/sovereigntist flavour already on the wane in the last years of the Parti Québécois reign.A smaller parade takes in old Montreal on June 24 from noon to 5 pm, with the typical blowout concert in Parc maisonneuve set to start at 5 pm (the main acts beginning at 8:45 pm).
Sovereigntist torch-bearers will find solace and camaraderie at the alternative event Spectacle pour la SAINT-JEAN BAPTISTE in Parc Jean-Drapeau (June 24, starting at 1 pm) with Loco Locass, Les Cowboys Fringants, and others.
